Smart little girl!

I figure since this is my blog, I have the right to brag about my children.

Right?

Even if you disagree, I win. Like I said, it’s my blog. :-)

Wow, I must be feeling sassy today.

I just have to point out that my darling daughter, who officially turns FIVE YEARS OLD tomorrow, is one smart cookie.

Pictured above is her “learning log,” which is basically her self-made textbook for her reading, writing, and spelling curriculum. Those are the first-ever five spelling words she was given – yes, written in her own cursive handwriting. (From top to bottom: top, but, and, cat, red.)

And I didn’t even tell her how to spell them!

Let me clarify. This curriculum has a specific dictation technique for spelling words. In a nutshell, I tell her the word, and we sound it out together, and then she writes the sounds she hears. I believe she only got one of the first ten words wrong – and it was because she forgot to add her vowel. (Spelled “ten” as “tn,” which I believe is fairly common for youngsters.)

I’m so proud of her!

On Monday, we’ll start a new homeschooling adventure – Saxon math!

Edit: I forgot to add…Today I asked her to tell me one sentence for each of her ten spelling words. First she asked, “What’s a sentence?” Okay, Lacey, back it up a little bit! :-) Once I helped her on the first couple of words, she was off and running with very fun, original sentences. My favorite was for the word “red”: “Sometimes our faces light up red when we choke.”
