Birthday Festivities

It was a very full, busy week last week, and then the weekend was great. I want to share pictures of our Easter celebration soon, but first I’m going to share some pictures of Caleb’s birthday festivities. (Lots of celebrating going on around here lately!)

You already saw our trip to the zoo. That same evening, we had Caleb’s birthday dinner (one day early, so we could participate in Maundy Thursday services at our church). He chose pancakes, smoky links, and orange juice.

We also had chocolate cake and mint chocolate chip ice cream. Below is Caleb’s super-cool spider cake. This is the first *fun* birthday cake I’ve made for the kids, and I must admit it was really easy. But doesn’t he look cool?

Blow out the candles, Caleb!

That evening, we attended a Grand Rapids Griffins hockey game. We were up in the nosebleeds, but it was still fun. We left after the second period, and Caleb let us know that he wanted to stay “all night long.” Here are some pictures from the game…

All in all, it was a full, fun day. And then when he woke up the next morning, on his *actual* fourth birthday, this is what he saw…

Happy birthday, Caleb! We love you!

That cake rocks! I think I need to get one for my next birthday!

What a fun birthday, Caleb! Love you buddy!

  2. MOM says:

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CALEB!!!!!

I love the cake. I have a book that has all different cake designs. I used to make one for each kids’ birthday until we moved to Michigan. Only Emily & Luke got cakes that I made. After that, I decided that they should pick their dessert. Most of us don’t like cake – so we pick other things. It looks like everyone had a great time. I would NEVER think of taking four kids to a hockey game – or any other game. It is enough stress taking Elyse to Zachary’s baseball games. She is SO bored!

Elyse says: “The cake looks really, really cool. Mom made me a house cake once, but it turned into a leaning tower of Pisa. Happy Birthday, Caleb! Loveyoubye!”

  3. Betsey says:

Caleb looks so enthralled at the game! I bet he had a blast – what a fun birthday!

True story about Elyse’s house cake – I was part of the rescue team filling gaps with frosting, trying to hold that sucker together. Turned out ok. More like a house after a recent earthquake, maybe.

I also LOVE the shot of Ava “helping” Caleb blow out the candles. Classic. :)

    Love you guys!

What happened to Ava’s face at the hockey game? Just noticed that after seeing these pictures several times.

Ahh, yes, Ava’s face. I almost mentioned it in one of these posts. Ava bit the dust probably four times at the zoo, and the last time she pretty much landed on her face and scratched her nose and upper lip. Poor baby!
