Happy 100th Day of School!

Today we’re celebrating Grace’s (and my) 100th day of kindergarten! We were happy to have our friends Jesse, Wes, and Brooke here to help us celebrate.

The sign says it all.

Luke and I blew up 100 balloons while we watched the end of a movie last night. Okay, I’ll be honest, Luke did much more blowing up than I did. I have wimpy cheek muscles.

To begin our celebration, I read Miss Bindergarten Celebrates the 100th Day of Kindergarten by Joseph Slate. We love the Miss Bindergarten books, and this one was just perfect for today!

Then the kids worked on Froot Loop necklaces – with a goal of stringing 100 Froot Loops on the string. Grace and Wes (pictured here with their finished necklaces) are the two that stuck with it long enough to reach the goal. Caleb got distracted after a while, and the girls (Ava and Brooke) ate a lot of the cereal they were supposed to string! :-)

While the kids worked on their necklaces, I read Psalm 100 to them, and we tried to come up with a list of 100 things we’re thankful for. We’ll continue to add to this list until we have 100. It’s a good exercise for all of us, to focus on giving thanks.

For lunch, we ate pizza with 100 pepperonis on it. Yum! For dessert, we counted out 100 M&Ms and ate them! Double yum!

Grace and Wes also made “100″ glasses. Don’t Jesse and I just look beautiful in them? :-)

I taught Grace how to write “one hundred,” though I don’t really think she’ll remember the word “hundred” unless we practice it, and let’s be honest. It’s just not a priority for me! It was a fun little activity, though.

Grace also did some worksheets – filling in a 100 number chart, coloring/counting 100 balloons, etc. After that, we played a rousing 2 rounds of Hi Ho Cherry-O!, and she is currently in the midst of her 100-minute nap.

I love the 100th day of school!

  1. HILARIOUS! I love that you have wimpy cheek muscles! Some jobs are just ‘Dad jobs!’ Trash, pumping gas, plunging toilets, paying on date night, changing batteries and blowing up 100 balloons!

What a fun day! Great job, lace!

  3. MOM says:

This made me laugh. Honestly, it took me a minute to figure out which “100 glasses person” was Lacey. I guess I need to see you more often to recognize your face, especially behind a mask.

I love special days of school. We don’t do enough of them. Wait a minute, we don’t do them at all.

We are going to watch maple syrup being made and tasting it fresh out of the pot (cooled off, I’m sure).

Thanks for making my day, Lacey. Good job, Grace & Wes!

Elyse says: “Maybe we should come over for the next 100 day of school, that looked like fun. Loveyoubye!”

  5. Betsey says:

We started ISTEP testing today. Somewhere we just lose the fun of school in between kindergarten and secondary! Boo. I would’ve loved to eat 100 cookies today or watch 100 minutes of Youtube videos. ;)

I wish I had known about 100 Day in advance! Maybe we old, boring people could’ve still had fun.

You did a great job, Lace! Sounds like everyone enjoyed 100 Day. Nice work, Teach!

    love,
    Betsey

  6. Dana says:

Wow, you are awesome, coming up with and putting into play so many great “100 Day” ideas!!! And kudos to you both on actually blowing up 100 balloons, my lungs are whipped after about five, I think I’d probably pass out after 20, you guys are nuts. :)

Isn’t the sunshine awesome today! Praising God we live in a place that’s not ALWAYS winter (cuz right about now it starts feeling like it). Put that on your 100 things to be thankful for. :)

    Dana

  7. Chaeli says:

Dude, you’re like the best homeschooler planner, what a fun day!!!

  8. larissa says:

wow you do have 4 kids right?! how the heck do you do all this?!

  9. {lacey} says:

Thanks, everybody. We had a fun day. It really wasn’t due to any brilliance of mine, just preparation. But thanks for making me feel good about myself. :-)

Larissa – I DO have four kids. And you’re hilarious. Honestly, life was busy with three, but I think four kids AND homeschooling is pushing me to the edge of my sanity sometimes. But it’s fun (when I’m not pulling my hair out), and I wouldn’t give it up for anything!

  10. 100 BALLOONS! That sounds like a job for an air compressor. I’m impressed.

You came up with so many activities! I think I would have lost count getting to 100 so many times. Maybe I would have counted to 25 four times instead. Lol. My brain works weird. Love you!

  11. larissa says:

see…thats where you lose me…Four kids AND homeschooling…now why on earth would you homeschool?! hahaha…j/k.

  12. {lacey} says:

Larissa, again, you’re funny. And I’m only homeschooling so I can say I’m using the degree I never quite completed. :-) I’m totally kidding – I love homeschooling! It was really overwhelming to even think about it at first, but now that we’re more than halfway into the year, I’m a lot more relaxed, and I’m starting to see the fruit of my labor, so to speak. Besides, it’s kindergarten, and it really only takes me two hours or less each day. (I mean, how much of kindergarten at a school is really curriculum-driven, versus playing, etc.?) ANYWHO, you probably didn’t even want an answer to your sassiness (teehee), but I gave you one anyway! Love you, friend!
