I’m in a funk. A rut. A mood.
I’m tired of winter. I have lived in Michigan all my life, so I figure I really have no right to be tired of winter in February. But I am.
The sunshine was beautiful this past weekend, but even it didn’t pull me out of The Mood.
My poor children. Mommy’s just no fun today.
Would you and your family like to join us for supper tonight? You’ll have to walk over because our drive is not plowed. We’re having lasagna at 6! Give me a call if interested!
I hear ya, sister. I was just asking a friend earlier today why it is that February has the least amount of days yet always seems like the longest month? So far I have only had one full week of a completely healthy household. Now both kids are sick again, I’m not sleeping well and I have cabin fever waiting for this baby to come. I need some SPRING!
We love you, Lacey! You do an amazing job. Forget the housework. Take the kids sledding down the hill. Get some fresh air (albeit snowy). Come on over – we will fix dinner for you too. Michele is an amazing neighbor!
Hey lacey, Hang in there! Pack the kids in the car and go to the children’s museum. That’s what we did today here and it made me smile watching my kid’s play somewhere that I didn’t have to clean up after them! Miss you guys!

Lace,
I am so right there with you! I have had strong tendencies to be cranky, irritable, and dreary these last few weeks. But I have taken some strides to take more initiative with my attitude recently, and so far they are working pretty well! I have tried to intentionally place something in each day that I can look forward to. One day it was a visit to a local pet store to play with puppies!
Today it was as simple as a Reese’s peanut butter egg in my lunch. But, nevertheless, it is a bright spot in my day regardless of how everything else goes.
So, I challenged my kids today in class to come up with something that they are looking forward to, and we filled my board with positive things that are coming for them in their day. This is my first day of trying it with my kids, but at least so far, it has made a HUGE difference in my attitude today!
Positive thinking is pretty powerful. You certainly can’t control your kids or all of your circumstances or other people’s attitudes, but there is a lot you can do with your own! It’s a lesson I’ve been gradually learning since I was maybe 12 or 13. Still working on it…
I love you, Lacey! Keep your chin up! February will NOT last forever – that’s one thing to look forward to!

Move to Florida.
I’ll admit, I’ve been down too, especially with the cold weather we’ve been having (yes, cold! it’s been below freezing here for weeks at night, and barely above or not above during the day…it ain’t right!). BUT, the weather turned a few days ago and it’s been sunny or at least warm (mid 60′s) today and yesterday and Saturday. Yay!
So…y’all come! I even went walking on the beach on Saturday and thought I probably could have gotten burnt if I’d stayed out long enough. Our little home is open for vacationers!
Hehe..if only the trip was 12 hours shorter!
Did you take your neighbor up on the offer for dinner? I would have! What a blessing to have neighbors like that! Our neighbors don’t talk to us anymore. I guess me asking them not to run over our bushes with their vehicle ended the conversation… and I asked very nicely when I could have been mean.
Anyway… I think everyone gets into that funk/mood thing every once in a while and it’s not always a bad thing. It brings things to my attention that I have neglected and let’s me see how I need to be conscious of my attitude and actions all the time, not just when it’s easy. Emotions are part of who God made us… we just need to be sure we let them reflect Him, and not just us.
Hope your funk is gone soon.
I was just talking to a friend about this — we live in CA, and she lives in WI (where I grew up). She was talking about how she stays home almost all the time with her son, because they’ve all been getting sick this winter, and she just ends up staying home to try to stay well. I told her “I honestly don’t know how you Midwest moms do it…seriously.” We have rainy weather here, and it gets hard when we have a couple days of it — so we head off to one of the many wonderful indoor play spaces in our area.
She told me that she looks at my pictures on Facebook and just cries and tells her family “They’re outside playing with a water table in short sleeves, and they have an orange tree” and I just felt so bad:(
I really, really don’t know how you do it in the long winter months…and with 4 kids.
Seriously…you’re allowed to have a bad day every now and then. I know I would!
