Great family devotional!

I’ve been meaning to mention this for a while now. We cherish our family devotional time right before the kids go to bed, and we were searching for a good book to use during that time. The book we used last year was a year-long book that we weren’t incredibly fond of. Then, this year, we tried a couple of different series of books before stumbling upon this one.

I found it on amazon.com and didn’t purchase it. But then I joined a really cool service called Paperback Swap. Basically, this (free) service allows you to “swap” books with other members through the mail. So all you ever pay for is shipping your books to other people. When you find books to request, the person sending the book pays the shipping costs.

Well, the first book I requested was this one: Devotions for the Children’s Hour by Kenneth Taylor. It doesn’t have flashy illustrations, and it’s pretty old-school as far as wording, but we appreciate the depth of the lessons. Instead of just talking about Suzy being nice to Jimmy even though he stole her lollipop (or something fluffy like that), our kids have been learning about our one God, the Trinity, the Holy Spirit, etc, etc. Pretty deep doctrinal things. There are also review questions near the end of each day, as well as a prayer, and a snippet of a hymn to sing. Yes, sometimes Luke changes the wording or skips a part of the story, but for the most part, we’ve been very pleased with it!
