We NEEEEEEEEEDED more apples. Apparently 2-1/2 bushels isn’t enough! That’s about 105 pounds of apples from our first visit, folks. And we needed more. So, we picked another 2 bushels; that’s about 84 more pounds. Wowsers.
Hopefully our freezer will be satisfied after this. 🙂
We had a quick, fun trip to the orchard last night with my sweet friend Amber, and her boys.
Enjoy some pictures of our trip!

Wow, that’s a TON of apples! I’m going to be making some applesauce soon, and was wondering what your favorite type of apple is to make sauce…and if you wouldn’t mind sending your recipe that would be great too. Thanks!

Hey, Erin! So….I have made applesauce out of whatever variety is available, and usually a mixture of two or three varieties. This year we’ll have Empire, Fuji, Spy Gold, and Ida Red to work with.
And I also don’t have a recipe. I’m not very much help, am I?! What I’ve done this year is just peel/core/slice the apples and throw them in the crockpot with some cinnamon/sugar sprinkled on top for about 6-8 hours on low. Then I use a slotted spoon to get them out and smash them in a bowl. We like slightly chunky sauce. If you liked pureed better, you could always put it in the blender for 10 seconds. The nice part of using the crockpot is that you don’t have to stand around and watch it. Once it’s in the pot, you can forget it’s there pretty much all day!
Let me know how yours turns out when it’s done (however you end up making it)!
