Loving Jesus, Loving Life

Tag: friends (page 2 of 2)

I’m so blue-hoo-hoo, blue-hoo-hoo, blue-hoo-hoo-hooooooooo!

The last time I went blueberry picking was the summer of 2007, when Grace had a broken leg and 1-year-old Caleb ate a LOT of green berries. But since four years have passed, I figured it was time to give it another try. 🙂

I left the boys with our beloved Miss Wendy. (For those of you who don’t know her, she is an awesome kid-magnet, a beloved teacher of the 2- and 3-year-olds at church, and a very generous person with her time and resources.) My friend Sommer and her daughter Maddie, as well as a sweet friend from church named Ginny, all piled into our van with the girls and me, and we trekked to Coopersville, to Ven Roy Blueberries. Ginny has been picking there for 25 years and highly recommended it. The orchard itself was very clean and well-kept, the blueberries were great (especially considering that it’s the tail end of the season), and the price was GREAT ($1.35/lb).

Here we are in front of the blue blueberry stand, ready for picking!

And Sommer in a blueberry bush. (She doesn’t know I took this picture – sorry, Som!)

See the bucket hanging from Sommer’s waist? If you’ve never picked blueberries, you may not know how this works. You just tie a string around your waist, and on the string is a clip. You clip your bucket on, and it hangs there, ready for you to fill. It’s very convenient and makes for faster picking!

Oh, did I mention that in the summer of 2007 I was about 6 months pregnant for Ava? You can imagine how silly I looked with a bucket hanging in front of my mondo-belly! 🙂

Of course the kiddos had to take a potty break in the middle of picking. So here are our silly girls (after we visited the lou): (L to R) Maddie, Grace, and Ava.

We picked about 12 pounds altogether (and definitely plan to pick more next year, toward the beginning of the season). Today, the kiddos enjoyed lots of blueberries with their lunches.

And later they will enjoy some blueberry muffins with streusel topping. YUMMO.

Friends are friends forever…

Remember that song? 🙂

No, really, Jana and I have been friends for 28-1/2 years, since we met in the church nursery when we were newborns. (She’s 24 days older than me, so she knew the ropes by the time I got there.)

And I’m so blessed that she’s still a part of my life! There’s something so comforting about having a friend who has known you literally your entire life. I don’t have to work hard to explain myself to her very often!

So, I was able to visit her a few weeks ago, and all of us had a blast! Her kiddos are ADORABLE, and her 2-year-old is the smartest one I’ve ever met!

Here are a couple of pictures…

Yes, we’re still friends.

If you happen to get on Facebook and notice that we’re not friends anymore (assuming we were friends in the first place), it’s not a Facebook glitch or a user error. And it’s not because I don’t like you anymore.

I’m just taking a Facebook sabbatical. I’ve found that I spend FAR TOO MUCH time with my nose in the laptop and FAR TOO LITTLE time on the floor with my children. And isn’t this the perfect season of life (and the perfect time of year) to spend a lot of time on the floor with my kiddos?

So I deactivated my account. Hopefully this will help.

So, yes, I still love you.

I’ll be back on Facebook…eventually…maybe.

I recently found this picture, as I was looking through old albums. (Remember pre-digital days when we actually used to – gasp! – PRINT pictures?! Luke actually had to scan it for me!)

It makes me smile.

It’s me with my college roommate, Chaeli, on our way to Midnight Madness. My best guess for a date is October 2002.

That girl and I had some side-splitting, hilarious, fall-down-laughing times in college.

Ah, who doesn’t love a quick stroll down memory lane?

Friends and Football

Okay, so this picture is late in coming, since people have long since forgotten the Superbowl. (Old news!) But I am still thankful for my good friends, who the Lord allowed me to meet at our church. Here are four of my closest girlfriends at a Superbowl party last week.
